“MOOCs” stands for Massive Open Online Courses. Usually these online courses are taught by universities all around the world (e.g. University of Michigan, Yale, The University of Chicago, Duke University, John Hopkins University, Columbia University, UC San Diego and many other universities. Other MOOCs are made by companies, like Google or Microsoft. They are available for anyone with an internet connection. Some of the popular MOOC providers include Coursera, edX, Udacity, and FutureLearn.

MOOCs are designed for an online audience, teaching primarily through short (5–20 min.) pre-recorded video lectures. You watch these videos on a weekly schedule when it is convenient for you. MOOCs also have student discussion forums, homework/assignments, and online quizzes or exams.

The Digital Learning & Skills Enrichment Initiative (DLSEI) is an initiative under Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme executed through the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan. DLSEI intends to enhance online learning and skills development among passionate students. They will be able to access courses and certifications from top universities of the world and get an opportunity to enroll themselves into the highest ranked and most expensive online courses absolutely FREE OF COST. This program will enhance students’ skills & abilities, and further equip them in a better way for practical life challenges, self-development etc. Moreover, this program is initially focused on the students who have already received laptops through the Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme.

Coursera is an online learning platform founded by Stanford professors Andrew Ng and Daphne Koller that offers courses, specializations, and degrees. Coursera works with universities and other organizations to offer online courses, specializations, and degrees in a variety of subjects, such as engineering, humanities, medicine, biology, social sciences, mathematics, business, computer science, digital marketing, data science, and others.

You can register in the DLSEI program by simply visiting the webpage DLSEI Registration Page. Click on the button named “REGISTER HERE FOR COURSERA”.

While signing up for the DLSEI program, if you don’t remember your email address registered with HEC or you don’t have access to your email address registered with HEC, then please contact http://helpdesk.hec.gov.pk

While signing up for the DLSEI program, if you are not using your HEC registered mobile number, then you have an option to “Send code to a new mobile number”. Simply check mark the box and you can enter the new mobile number.

Note: You must enter your previous mobile number that is registered with HEC in order to enter your new mobile number.

If you are under 18, then you can enter your B-form number.

After signing-up and completing your registration process on the DLSEI portal, you will be redirected to sign-up for Coursera. Alternatively, you will be sent an email containing the invitation link for the program. Once you have accepted the terms and conditions by clicking Agree, you will have access to the programme. There are 12 collections of courses for you to choose from across different skill areas. Click on the View All option to see all the courses in a collection.

Once you have completed the registration process on DLSEI portal, you will receive an invitation to the learning programme. When you click on the “START LEARNING ON COURSERA” button, you’ll be redirected to the Log-in page. You must accept the Terms and Conditions in order to be part of the programme. There are 12 collections of courses for you to choose from across different skill areas. Click on the View All option to see all the courses in a collection.

As soon as you register on Coursera and join the program, you will be able to explore the wide range of courses on the Coursera platform. To read more about the courses click on one and view the description. Once you have chosen a course you would like to enroll in, select the Start button to begin!

You can access the course materials on the Coursera’s website once you have enrolled in the course. This material is usually some combination of text to read, videos to watch, quizzes to complete, and assignments to work on. Coursera also have a mobile app, which can be used to access the course materials.

Once you are enrolled in a course, a “My Courses” section will appear in the learning programme. Clicking on “resume” will take you back to the course.

You can change your course as long as you do so within the first 14 days. After this point you cannot change course and must complete the course you have enrolled in. To unenroll use the … menu next to your course. You will then be able to select another course.

Sometimes this happens! Coursera allows you to join new sessions of the course if you fall behind the internal course schedule. This way you will not lose your progress.

Learners are supported 24x7x365 by Coursera’s Learner Services team with chat and email help. The learners will also have direct access to chat support from their program page. Leaners can find self-help content in the Learner Help Center. Alternatively, learners can also get help by submitting a request for reactive support via Help Center and also by a chat with a live agent for reactive support.

When you access the video lecture, you will find the download bar below the video section. Under the download bar, you will be able to download the video file, subtitles and its transcription.

You can change your course in first 14 days after this point you cannot change course and must be complete the course you have enrolled in.

If you are a recipient of a Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme (PMLS) and you still you have the HEC login credentials, then you can be a part of this program.
